Dear Players and Parents:
The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club began
with the idea of providing youngsters with the most positive experience
possible through playing the sport.
The whole intramural program is based on
these ideas-Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams and Positive Coaching, plus,
of course, input from people like yourself. Getting as many parents as
possible involved in the program helps spread around the work and fun.
Everyone Plays
Our goal is for children to play soccer, not
to sit on the bench. So we have a rule-strictly enforced-that every
player on every team must play at least half of every game.
Balanced Teams
If you’ve ever watched youngsters
choose up sides for a sandlot game, you know they try to arrange even
teams-because it’s more fun that way. We do the same thing by
setting up teams at the beginning of every season to make them as
evenly balanced as possible.
Positive Coaching
We agree it’s a lot of fun to win
games-but it’s even more fun for a youngster to see his or her
skills steadily improving as the season progresses. So we say, winning
kids come first, winning games comes second. What makes winning kids is
built up. Not put down. They thrive on encouragement. The extra effort
it takes to offer positive help to our players, rather than negative
criticism, is an investment in the future of all our kids-on or off the
playing field.
Registration
Our programs are open to all girls and boys
who register and want to play soccer. There are no tryouts to "make the
team, no reserved places", and beginners are just as welcome as the
skilled players. We form the following divisions each season:

Developmental Program
Developmental Program is offered only to 3rd grade boys and girls that wish to further develop their skills in preparation for travel soccer. The program includes a weekly advanced training clinic and participation in a U9 pre-travel league. This is in addition to the regular intramural games, practices and clinics and will require a strong commitment by your child. The cost of the program is $300 per player in addition to the regular registration fees.
While this is great preparation for travel soccer, this program is not a pre-requisite for travel and, does not assure your child's placement on a travel team.
Every Centennial Player Can Win
If we do a good job, every Centennial player
can win by playing in every game, by playing on a team that has just as
good a chance as any other team to win or lose a game, and by playing
in an environment that helps him or her perform just a little bit
better every time out. Most of all, every child can win by having a
good time playing soccer which, after all, is what youth sports should
be all about.
Let’s have fun,
Larry
