Garden City Centennial Travel Tryouts Registration

Dear Parent(s):

The Travel Committee of the Garden City Centennial Soccer Club would like to provide you with some information regarding our annual Under-10 tryouts.

We have taken very specific steps to insure that the two day selection process is fair and equitable. The first day is a skills assessment, designed to measure speed, dribbling, shooting, passing and position awareness. The second day is the field assessment, designed to determine overall soccer ability and awareness, in a game situation. No one will be selected for a team if they miss either day. Through this process, the Travel Committee, selection consultants and coaches will select the players for each team utilizing the composite scores from the first day and a group consensus from the second day.

Representatives from the Travel Committee, the coaches and experienced trainers jointly select the team. The coach serves as only one member of the selection committee. The Travel Committee and the Centennial Board have made a great effort to insure that the selection process is fair and impartial.

Since this is a selection process, if your child is selected for a team, we expect a full commitment to the team. This entails going to all practices, all games and all tournaments, even if they conflict with other sports. If you feel that you or your child will be unable to fulfill these obligations, please reconsider having your child attend these tryouts.

Each team is required to set up an account that is administered by the Treasurer of the Travel Committee, to pay for team expenses. The individual player contribution is determined by the coach to cover registration, equipment, tournaments, trainers and uniform expenses. Team jackets, bags or warm-ups will be an additional expense that is determined by the coach, if appropriate. The annual player expense is usually $600.00 - $700.00, depending on the number of tournaments that the team plays. Additionally, the Club attends an out-of-state tournament for Columbus Day weekend that adds another $400.00 - $500.00 to the annual expense.

If your child is not selected for one of the travel teams this year, they of course should continue to play intramural soccer. We have recently enhanced our program by providing weekday training for those players that are interested. Our intramural soccer program runs through high school for the girls program  and 6th grade for the boys program. These intramural teams will provide the travel teams with the players that they need, as their rosters expand during the following two years.

Thank you for your interest and support
